    Etimológicamente, la palabra «educación» procede del latín ēducātiō ("crianza") o de ēdūcō ("educo, entreno") que está relacionado con el homónimo ēdūcō ("llevo adelante, saco") de ē- ("de, fuera de") y dūcō ("conduzco, guío").[8]​ Asimismo, la palabra educación, como se explica al inicio, tiene por lo menos dos étimos latinos: ēdūcere y ēdūcāre, siendo el segundo derivado del primero; lo importante es que ēdūcere etimológicamente significa el promover al desarrollo (intelectual y cultural) del educando, es decir, desarrollar las potencialidades psíquicas y cognitivas propias del educando desde su intelecto y su conocimiento haciendo en tal proceso al educando activo.
